Abstract

Removable dentures remain one of the most commonly used treatment methods for the rehabilitation of partially and completely edentulous patients. Despite recent advances in fixed prosthodontics and implant-supported restorations, removable prostheses continue to play a significant role because of their affordability, accessibility, and clinical applicability in various patient groups. The success of prosthetic treatment depends not only on technical quality but also on patient adaptation, comfort, esthetic perception, and functional outcomes. Patient satisfaction has become an important indicator for evaluating treatment effectiveness and overall quality of care. This study aimed to assess patient satisfaction after prosthetic treatment with removable dentures and evaluate factors affecting treatment outcomes. The findings indicated that removable prosthetic rehabilitation significantly improves oral function, esthetics, and quality of life among patients.

Tooth loss remains a common dental problem worldwide and may lead to functional, esthetic, psychological, and social consequences. Patients with partial or complete edentulism frequently experience difficulties with mastication, speech, facial appearance, and social interactions. Removable dentures are widely used to restore oral function and improve quality of life. However, adaptation to removable prostheses varies among individuals and may be influenced by several factors including denture stability, retention, esthetics, comfort, age, and patient expectations. Assessment of patient satisfaction provides valuable information regarding treatment success and allows clinicians to identify areas requiring improvement in prosthetic rehabilitation.

The aim of this study was to assess patient satisfaction after prosthetic treatment with removable dentures and determine the factors influencing clinical and functional outcomes.

The study included 90 patients aged between 45 and 75 years who underwent prosthetic rehabilitation using removable dentures. Clinical evaluation and structured patient questionnaires were conducted following treatment. Assessment parameters included chewing ability, speech function, comfort, retention, esthetic appearance, ease of adaptation, and overall satisfaction. Follow-up examinations were performed at one month, three months, and six months after denture placement. Statistical analysis was used to determine relationships between patient characteristics and satisfaction levels.

The findings revealed that the majority of patients experienced significant improvement in oral function following prosthetic treatment. Chewing efficiency and speech function improved considerably after adaptation to removable dentures. Patients reported high levels of satisfaction regarding esthetic appearance and restoration of facial symmetry. Initial discomfort and difficulties with speech adaptation were observed during the early post-treatment period but gradually decreased over time. Better satisfaction outcomes were associated with improved denture retention and stability. Age, oral tissue condition, and previous prosthetic experience also influenced adaptation and treatment perception. Overall patient satisfaction increased progressively during follow-up visits.

Removable dentures remain an effective treatment option for oral rehabilitation in edentulous patients. Successful prosthetic outcomes depend on both technical quality and patient adaptation to the prosthesis. Patient satisfaction is an important criterion for evaluating treatment success and quality of life improvements. Comprehensive clinical assessment and individualized treatment planning contribute to better functional outcomes and increased patient acceptance of removable prosthetic rehabilitation.
