Chronic rhinosinusitis represents a multifactorial inflammatory condition involving the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses. It is considered an important public health problem due to its high prevalence and negative impact on daily activities and productivity. Multiple etiological factors including infections, allergies, anatomical abnormalities, environmental exposure, and immune dysfunction contribute to disease development. Persistent inflammation may lead to structural and functional changes in the sinonasal mucosa. Early identification and effective management are important for preventing complications and improving patient well-being.
The aim of this study was to evaluate contemporary approaches for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic rhinosinusitis and assess their effectiveness in improving clinical outcomes.
Materials and Methods
The study included 100 patients diagnosed with chronic rhinosinusitis aged between 18 and 60 years. Clinical examination was performed through medical history collection, physical assessment, nasal endoscopy, and radiological investigations including computed tomography of paranasal sinuses. Laboratory investigations and microbiological analyses were performed where necessary. Patients received medical treatment consisting of nasal saline irrigation, intranasal corticosteroids, antibiotics when indicated, and supportive therapy. Clinical outcomes were evaluated during follow-up assessments.
The study demonstrated that nasal obstruction, facial pressure, nasal discharge, and reduction of olfactory function were the most common presenting symptoms. Nasal endoscopy and computed tomography significantly improved diagnostic accuracy by identifying mucosal changes and anatomical abnormalities. Patients receiving comprehensive treatment demonstrated significant symptom reduction and improvement in quality of life. Early diagnosis and individualized treatment strategies contributed to better therapeutic outcomes and lower recurrence rates.
The management of chronic rhinosinusitis requires a multidisciplinary approach because of the complex mechanisms involved in disease progression. Advances in diagnostic imaging and endoscopic techniques have improved the ability to identify pathological changes at early stages. Modern therapeutic strategies focus on reducing inflammation, controlling infection, and restoring normal sinus function. Individualized treatment approaches appear more effective than generalized management protocols.
Chronic rhinosinusitis remains a common condition with considerable impact on quality of life. Early diagnosis and comprehensive management strategies significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce complications. Modern diagnostic and therapeutic approaches provide effective tools for enhancing clinical practice in otorhinolaryngology.
